Matt Patricia has officially been announced as the 27th coach in Detroit Lions franchise history. As the NFLs worst kept secret, Patricia was pretty much a lock for the Lions job about 3 weeks ago. When the Lions began their coaching search, the day after their season ended, I was all in on them going after Matt Patricia. When it was announced that the job was basically his, I instantly started dreaming of deep playoff runs and Lombardi Trophies (multiple). Now that it is official, the only things that will be announced are who the assistants are on the defensive side of the ball and a few offensive assistants. It is to be believed that Jim Bob Cooter will remain the offensive coordinator at this time. I am not sure how I feel about this move, to be completely honest. On one hand, the offensive numbers suggest that JBC and Stafford have finally started clicking, on the other hand the run game has been atrocious. I am not sure if that is because of Caldwell or Cooter, I guess we will have to wait and see. But, for now, we can rejoice and wait until our personal Super Bowl, the NFL Draft.
P.S. If you are having reservations about Patricia because of the Super Bowl, you’re an idiot. If we are only basing one game on how good a coach can be, let me present to you the last game of Caldwell’s coaching career in Detroit. Im looking at you Carlos Monarez.
